THE SITE OF THE ‘FOX UNDER THE HILL INN’
The present Fox Hills Golf Course stands on part of John Nicholl’s farm, the land being granted to him on 18 July 1791. This was the 10th land grant given on the mainland.
In the mid 1820s Francis Peisley bought the property and built ‘The Fox under the Hill Inn’, which was destroyed by fire in 1830. The new Inn, built in 1832 survived until about 1964, when it was demolished for the Golf Club’s car park.
