The land opposite Hylands Inn was the 50-acre farm granted to Joseph Morley on 17 July 1791. He was one of the most successful of the 1791 settlers and one of the early campaigners to have a Catholic priest brought to the colony. In 1807 he sold the farm to his cousin, also Joseph Morley, for 5 shillings.

He remained District Constable at Prospect until his dismissal for drunkenness in 1820. He died in 1822 and his widow was taken in to his cousins’s household.
